““I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles” – Anne Frank
Susan Sparks
Susan Sparks, LPC-86834, is a Licensed Professional Counselor who brings a holistic, trauma-informed lens to therapy, grounded in the transformative power of the therapeutic relationship. With a deep commitment to relational healing, Susan integrates interpersonal psychology, somatics, mindfulness, ecopsychology, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to support clients in accessing their innate capacity for growth and resilience.
At the core of Susan’s approach is the belief that the therapeutic relationship itself is a vital agent of change—a space of trust, attunement, and co-regulation where new patterns of connection and self-understanding can emerge. Rooted in interpersonal and attachment-based theory, she works collaboratively with clients to explore how early relational experiences shape present-day challenges and to foster new, healing relational experiences in the here and now.
Her somatic and mindfulness-informed approach further enriches her work and helps clients reconnect with their bodies as vital sources of wisdom and regulation, fostering a grounded presence and emotional clarity.
A strong advocate for nature-based healing, Susan incorporates ecopsychological principles into her practice, offering nature-immersive sessions and eco-informed perspectives that affirm our interdependence with the living world. With a certification in EMDR and a foundation in attachment-based and relational therapies, Susan helps clients process and integrate trauma in a safe and contained way.
Whether in the therapy room or nature-based sessions, Susan offers a grounded, compassionate presence and a relational space where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered to live with greater authenticity and wholeness.
Susan works with adults and adolescents, addressing concerns such as Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Grief, Stress Management, and Relationship Concerns. In addition to her work as a counselor, Susan has a 200-hour yoga teacher certification from the Mount Madonna Institute in Watsonville, CA. She has found Yoga practices to enhance an individual’s ability to regulate their nervous system, heighten personal awareness, and enrich self-compassion, leading to more satisfaction in one's relationships with self and others. Additionally, she is completing Rochelle Calvert’s Healing with Nature: Trauma Care, a 12-month certification training on healing the physiology and psychology of trauma with the Earth.
Susan received her Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Kinesiology and Psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington (2018) and a Master of Science in Counseling and Development from Texas Woman’s University (2021).
She also serves as Director of CALM Convos at TCU through the CALM Studies initiative on the university campus.
Susan writes,
“I look forward to being a part of CALM Community Convos and helping participants find balance, clarity, and connection through meaningful conversation, combining empathic dialogue with other contemplative methods, such as mindfulness, and various forms of nature-based meditation. I help individuals deeply explore and actualize their potential for belonging, wisdom, compassion, and flourishing.
Talk with you soon!”
